Case Study: NYU Stern
A streamlined student information system and class registration process platform
NYU Stern School of Business is one of the elite business schools in the world. Today, the school has students from around the globe, teaches across continents, and is pushing the envelope of blending education, business & technology. Every year, thousands of students are required to manage their curriculum, sign-up for classes, and manage their bursars in order to get a world-class education.
Senior IT leadership understood the need to develop a more streamlined student information system and class registration process so that students could have more visibility into their time spent while earning a degree.
The team was looking for a partner with knowledge in building mobile experiences, specifically for the multitude of touchpoints that students have with the university - from course planning, to financial aid, to events.
Working with NYUs internal digital team, Icreon charted out a plan of action to create a mobile strategy for the Student Registration System. A vast number of requirements were gathered – students needed to search, browse, and eventually select business courses. They also needed the functionality to see trending courses and potential availabilities in real-time. This was combined with the need to allow for seamless bursar and financial package transactions.
Our application design team put together a series of workflows and interfaces for a mobile-optimized website that would allow students to access their registration information easily. Beyond that, the user experience team charted a course of HTML5 libraries to use to facilitate gesture-base interactions to make it easier for students to interact with the app on smartphones.
