Digital transformation for the foundation of one of the nation's most iconic landmarks

the organization

The Statue of Liberty-Ellis Island Foundation (SOLEIF) was founded in 1982 with the mission of raising funds to restore and maintain one of the nation’s most iconic landmarks. As a major first step, the Foundation setup the Ellis Island Museum of Immigration to house immigration archives, related exhibits and other memorabilia. Today, with over 4 million annual visitors, the Foundation & Museum have collectively raised over $700 million toward the restoration of the historic symbols of freedom.

the challenge

With such a diverse operations landscape running the foundation – from donor management, to hosting a database of 51 million immigration records, to eCommerce transactions - managing and maintaining data across disparate systems and departments was proving to be tedious and costly. SOLEIF was looking for a partner who could consolidate these systems into a single platform to break down departmental siloes while simultaneously communicating foundation’s vision on the frontend.

Seamlessly migrating the history of the nation into a digital world

Through physical kiosks located in Ellis Island anyone can make donations, get digital certifications, and search through over 50 million records

the solution

Icreon has developed a robust, centralized back-end system that provides an effective and efficient means for SOLEIF to connect departments and manage operational activities. Access to a common repository of information ensures better communication and exchange of data between departments resulting in greater productivity.

The solution houses the huge immigration and passenger archive. The primary focus was the smooth migration of the millions of records. Keeping in mind the importance that family histories have for people, a series of complex migration scripts and multiple levels of quality checks were put in place to ensure smooth migration and no loss of data.
